Internship Reflection
End of Semester/Internship Reflection
When I started my internship at Suburban Health at Home I did not fully realize how much the behind-the-scenes operations of a healthcare organization relied on a strong HR foundation. What surprised me most was how directly recruitment and onboarding decisions impact patient care — if the right people are not hired and properly trained, the quality of care suffers. This was something I had learned about in classes like H303 and my healthcare marketing course but seeing it play out in a real organization made it click in a completely different way. I also did not expect to be involved in process improvement so early on, but being asked to contribute to those conversations made me feel like a valued member of the team. Looking ahead, this internship has pushed me toward wanting to pursue a career in healthcare operations or HR management within a healthcare setting. I came in thinking I wanted to work in administration generally, but I am leaving with a much more specific direction and a stronger sense of what I am capable of professionally.
